March 14, 2020

We have been continually monitoring the developments of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) through various media outlets along with government guidance regarding its unfortunate spread over the past few weeks. As a church community we are well aware of this public concern and want to assure you that while we know that our God is a present help during any time of trouble (Psalm 46), we are prepared to continue to practice preventive measures as we aim to mitigate the risk during corporate worship and gatherings. As a community we encourage you to regularly monitor updates through the Center for Disease Control for additional precautions and relevant information.

  • As a church community we are encouraging everyone to follow the recommended precautions:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Resist the urge to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick. You’re welcome to watch us via livestream at cogef.org
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

Additionally, precautionary measures in our local building includes:

  • Sanitation of frequently touched spaces: door handles, rails, microphones, etc.
  • Children’s nursery room is sanitized after weekly use.
  • While we gratefully welcome our visitors and members to the house of God, during this time, we will not have greeters shaking hands at the door.
  • During our welcome segment of our service, we will not be shaking hands. We will however, offer a wave or friendly smile.
  • Reminding the general public of the hand sanitizing stations in the main lobby and balcony levels of the church

Additionally, precautionary measures in our local building includes:Under the direction of the NYC Mayor and NY Governor regarding social gatherings, we are suspending all in person non-essential meetings until the end of March. We are identifying Sunday morning worship (8am and 11am) and Wednesday evening bible study (8pm) as essential meetings for the week.

In spite of the public concern, I encourage all to not be consumed with fear and anxiety. We will continue to pray and practice all recommended preventative measures. Also, let us remember in prayer those affected with the virus, their caregivers and the teams of government, medical and additional officials working around the clock to combat this outbreak.
